Medical benefits

Basic livelihood beneficiaries, as multicultural families have the following medical benefits

Basic livelihood beneficiaries are classified into Class 1 and 2 for medical benefits.

  • Class 1 Beneficiaries
    • Basic livelihood security beneficiaries (households without ability to work)
    • Flood victims, persons killed or wounded for a righteous cause,
    • men of national merit, resident escaping from North Korea,
    • those who were designated as an intangible cultural heritage,
    • indemnitee from the Gwangju Democratization Movement,
    • adopted children (under 18 years old), charity patients
  • Class 2 Beneficiaries
    • Basic livelihood security beneficiaries (households with the ability to work)

Benefits(Class 1 Beneficiaries)

  • Out-of-Pocket for Outpatients
    • 1,000 Won per visit for primary health care facilities
    • 1,500 Won per visit for secondary health care facilities
    • 2,000 Won per visit for tertiary health care facilities
  • Pharmacy: out-of-pocket of 500 Won per visit
  • Inpatients: no out-of-pocket

Benefits(Class 2 Beneficiaries)

  • Outpatients
    • out-of-pocket of 1,000 Won per visit for primary health care facilities
  • Pharmacy: out-of-pocket of 500 Won per visit
  • Inpatients: 90% subsidy

Other benefits

  • If the Class 2 beneficiary visits a health office, he/she has no out-of-pocket.
  • The physically challenged in Class 1 or 2 can request the necessary coverage to purchase an assisting devices for the physically challenged.
    (cane, glasses for those with poor vision, hearing aid, external artificial larynx, crutches, electric wheelchair, walkers, etc.)

Out-of-Pocket

  • For outpatients that are Class 1 beneficiaries,
    • subsidize 50% of the out-of-pocket fee if the hospital expense exceeds 20,000 Won for 30 days
    • subsidize the out-of-pocket fee if the hospital expenses exceed 50,000 Won for 30 days
  • For outpatients that are Class 2 beneficiaries,
    • subsidize 50% of the out-of-pocket if the out-of-pocket hospital expense exceeds 200,000 Won for 30 days
  • ※ Selection Standards of Basic Livelihood Security Beneficiaries

    Basic livelihood security beneficiaries are those thathave no one with the duty to support them, or have someone with the duty to support them but without the ability to support them, and whose taxable income is below the minimum cost of living in accordance with the provisions of Article 5 of the National Basic Living Security Act.
    (Basic livelihood security beneficiaries shall comply with both the taxable income standards and the standards on the person who has the duty to support them.)
